Almost 70% of respondents in a January poll conducted by the All-Russian Center for Public Opinion Research (VTsIOM) said that they supported Russia's decision to launch a special military operation (SMO) in Ukraine. This is reported on the VTsIOM website on February 6.

Researchers drew attention to the consistently high level of approval of the special operation throughout its entire period.

"Immediately after the start of the SWO, in February 2022, the level of support amounted to 65%, a year later it was 68%, remaining so in early 2024; <...> during the January poll, 67% of Russians declared their support," the report says.

In addition, it is noted that 65% of respondents consider the course of hostilities successful for Russia.

Earlier, on January 24, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev said that in 2024, more than 40 thousand volunteers went to the zone of the SSO. In addition, he said, more than 1 thousand people signed a contract to serve in the Russian Armed Forces on a daily basis last year.

The special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken against the backdrop of the worsening situation in the region.
