Baku notified the U.S. of the termination of USAID activities in Azerbaijan
Baku has sent Washington a notice that the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) will stop working in Azerbaijan. The official representative of the Transcaucasian republic's Foreign Ministry Ayhan Hajizadeh told APA on February 6.
He specified that USAID has no legal grounds to continue its activities in Azerbaijan.
Earlier in the day, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban welcomed the decision of US President Donald Trump's administration to stop USAID's work. The head of the government noted that it was this agency that funded the ultra-progressive Politico newspaper and most of Hungary's leftist publications.
The day before, on February 5, the executive secretary of the executive committee of the opposition bloc "Victory" Marina Tauber reported that representatives of the Moldovan opposition sent a request to the Moldovan government to check the activities of USAID in the country. In particular, the politicians want to know whether the agency's work was analyzed by the information security system and whether the American structure influenced the decisions of the authorities in Chisinau.
On February 3, American billionaire Ilon Musk announced the launch of a process to liquidate USAID. The billionaire noted that this agency is not recoverable, it should be closed. At the same time, Trump called the heads of the agency radical madmen.
