UAZ commented on the announcement of entering the Ethiopian market
The Ulyanovsk automobile plant is studying the possibility of entering the Ethiopian market; the final plans and possible dates for the appearance of UAZ models in this country have not yet been determined. This was reported to Izvestia on February 6 by the press service of the Russian enterprise.
"Undoubtedly, the market is attractive, our vehicles by their characteristics meet local conditions, we are working out options. But it is a bit premature to talk about specifics yet," UAZ representatives told Izvestia.
Earlier, Ethiopian Ambassador to Moscow Genet Teshome Jirru reported that UAZ and Ural are planning to come to the creation of assembly plants in Ethiopia.
"Representatives of Russian automakers have already visited Ethiopia and started contacting partners. We are talking, in particular, about Ural and UAZ. In the future, they will move to the establishment of assembly plants, step by step. I think it will develop into a full-fledged assembly or even a full cycle of car production," the ambassador told TASS.
In the same interview, the diplomat said that AvtoVAZ is considering launching production of Lada electric cars in Ethiopia.
On December 18 last year it was reported that the production of UAZ cars is planned to start in Cuba in February 2025. At the end of 2024, the Cuban side was finalizing the preparation of the assembly site. Preliminarily, the Republic of Cuba plans to establish production of UAZ Patriot and UAZ Pickup from Russian vehicle components.
