Self-sufficiency of the Russian Federation in dairy products amounted to 76%
The self-sufficiency of the Russian Federation in cheese, butter and milk powder is at most 76%, Anastasia Vyalikova, Director for Development of Agro-Industrial Complex (AIC) and Food Industry at Reksoft, told Izvestia on February 6.
In general, the country provides itself with "dairy" by 85%, the expert noted. In 2024, the volume of milk sales amounted to 56.2 thousand tons, which exceeds the previous year's figures by almost two thousand tons.
"The growth of consumption of dairy products is observed both in Russia and on the world market. Thus, during last year the demand for dairy products within the country increased by 4%, but not all producers are able to respond to the growing demands of buyers," Vyalikova said.
According to her, in 2024 there was a significant gap between the growing demand and decreasing raw milk production rates, which resulted from low purchase prices in 2023.
By 2030, the country plans to increase dairy exports from $438 million to $731 million, supported by increased global milk consumption, lower production in Europe and New Zealand, and opportunities for domestic production growth. Already in 2024, exports have shown significant growth, with shipments up 6% in volume and 19% in value. The main categories driving this growth are cheese, ice cream, milk and cream.
Earlier, on February 4, the press service of the Ministry of Agriculture said that the production of wine and cognac in Russia exceeded 60 million dal. In particular, still wines were produced 32.6 million dal (8.6% increase over the previous year), sparkling - 17.6 million dal (+24.7%), fortified - 1.1 million dal (+29.6%), cognac - 9.7 million dal (+10.2%). The main wine-producing regions in our country are traditionally Krasnodar Krai (35.8% of the total production), the Republic of Crimea (16.1%) and Dagestan (13.7%). Consumers are increasingly favoring domestic wines: every year the share of their sales increases both in retail trade and in public catering.
