The State Duma will prepare a project on medical examination of foreigners coming to Russia

The State Duma is preparing a bill related to the medical examination of foreigners who come to Russia. This was reported on Thursday, February 6, by the chairman of the lower house of parliament, Vyacheslav Volodin.

He said that at the moment there are about 670 thousand illegal migrants living in Russia and added that those foreigners, in respect of whom the expulsion regime has been introduced, will be included in a special register of controlled persons.

They will be forbidden to open bank accounts and dispose of funds on them. They will not be able to buy or sell any property, register transactions, or conclude marriages. They are also prohibited from driving vehicles and obtaining driver's licenses. In addition, they are not allowed to change their place of residence or stay in the Russian Federation without the permission of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. In case of violation of the rules, foreigners will be deported.

"For our part, we are preparing legislative initiatives related to medical examination of foreign citizens arriving in our country," he wrote in his Telegram channel.

Volodin also noted that the government is expected to come up with proposals that will regulate labor migration, as well as the entry of migrant workers' families into Russia.

On December 30, 2024, Russian President Vladimir Putin obliged illegal migrants to leave Russia or legalize their stay in Russia until April 30, 2025.

Before that, on November 22, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that labor migration in the country should be strictly regulated, but all rules should be simple and convenient. He emphasized that it is those migrants who arrived in the country illegally and create risks of spreading crime that create the problem. Peskov added that Russia needs migrants for dynamic development.

On November 7, Putin said that the Russian authorities should first of all proceed from the interests of Russians when it comes to attracting migrants. The head of state emphasized that foreigners who come to the country will not face rejection from citizens if they know Russian traditions well, observe the law and speak Russian.
