Tusk has been investigated on charges of coup d'etat
The chairman of Poland's constitutional court, Bogdan Święczkowski, said that Prime Minister Donald Tusk and other officials have been investigated on suspicion of a coup d'état. This was reported by Gazeta.pl on February 5.
"On January 31, I signed a 60-page notice of legal suspicion of the crime of coup d'état by the prime minister, ministers, speakers of the Sejm and Senate, deputies and senators of the ruling coalition, as well as some judges, prosecutors and other persons," Święczkowski told a press conference.
Donald Tusk himself has spoken out about the situation. In the social network X (former Twitter) he posted a video of him playing table tennis. There it is heard that someone tells the Polish Prime Minister that the leader of the opposition Law and Justice party Jaroslaw Kaczynski considers him guilty of a coup d'état.
"Calm down. We have serious business here. We'll take care of it later," Donald Tusk says with a laugh and continues the game.
In addition, Polish President Andrzej Duda said that Warsaw has faced a series of repeated and gross violations of the law by those who exercise executive power. He also noted that Święczkowski is a very experienced prosecutor.
Prior to that, on January 8, Poland scheduled presidential elections for May 18. The vice-speaker of the Senate (upper house of the Polish parliament) Magdalena Beyat, MP Marek Jakubiak, leader of the New Hope party Slawomir Mentzen, Polish historian and independent candidate Karol Nawrocki, Warsaw mayor and Civic Coalition candidate Rafal Trzaskowski, as well as Cholownia himself are planning to take part in the election.
Earlier, on January 3, in Poland launched an investigation against former Polish Defense Minister Antoni Macierewicz in a case of diplomatic treason. It is noted that the harm to the country was caused by the fact of withdrawal from the program for the purchase of refueling aircraft in 2016. Macierewicz's actions caused damage to the property of the Polish Defense Ministry for a total amount of more than € 473 thousand.
