Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova has ironically commented on British Foreign Secretary David Lammy's words about the time of historical relations between Britain and Ukraine. The diplomat said this on February 5 in her Telegram channel.

Earlier, Lammy noted that "the British-Ukrainian partnership has thousands of years".

"... and goes back to the foothills of the Egyptian pyramids? Why so little? Even on the brontosaurus together hunted," - wrote Zakharova.

In the same Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiga in a conversation with his British counterpart David Lammy asked to increase investment in Ukrainian arms production.

Earlier, on January 17, it became known that the UK intends to consider the possibility of placing military bases in Ukraine, which is spelled out in the declaration. It was noted that the facilities could be used to strengthen defense capabilities in case of a "significant military threat".

Prior to that, on January 16, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky (term expired on May 20, 2024) and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer signed a centennial partnership agreement. Following the talks, Starmer said that the UK will always be ready to play a leading role in supporting Ukraine. He also announced the transfer of a new air defense system to Ukraine.

Western countries have stepped up military and financial support for Ukraine against the backdrop of Russia's special operation to protect Donbass, which was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin on February 24, 2022, after the situation in the region worsened due to shelling by the Ukrainian military.
