In Estonia, the prosecutor demanded six years' imprisonment for Russian journalist Svetlana Burtseva. This was reported by the portal Delfi on February 5.
"The prosecutor finds that the defendant should spend six years behind bars, and the lawyer considers the charges completely unfounded," - stated in the publication.
It is noted that the demand for the sentence was made by the prosecutor at the court session on Tuesday, February 4.
On August 6, 2024 the portal of Estonian broadcasting ERR with reference to the prosecutor's office reported that Burtseva is accused of state treason in Estonia. It was specified that the Estonian citizen worked for the Russian media group Rossiya Segodnya, covering public events in the republic, her texts allegedly "served the interests of Russian propaganda", she continued to work for this company after the sanctions imposed against Russia, although she knew about the ban on this activity.
On August 7, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that the case against journalist Svetlana Burtseva, accused of state treason in Estonia, who wrote articles and took photos for the Baltnews online edition, was absolutely fabricated and speaks about the decline of Western-style democracy.
