Musk criticized the use of taxpayer money to fund media outlets
American entrepreneur and head of the new U.S. Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) Ilon Musk has spoken negatively about the practice of funding the media at the expense of public funds. Musk said this on February 5 on his page in the social network X (former Twitter).
"This is obviously a huge waste of taxpayers' money," Musk believes.
He noted that these measures concern, among other things, payment for subscriptions to Associated Press (AP) news stories, for which the U.S. government allocates millions of dollars annually.
In response, Musk advised that this "waste" would soon stop.
On the same day, NBC News reported that Musk has recently received reminders from the White House that his power is limited. It is noted that aides to US President Donald Trump have made it clear to Musk that he is an employee of the Chief of Staff and must report to the head of the White House Susie Wiles.
Earlier on February 5, Bloomberg reported that Musk's team had gained access to a secure room at the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), which contained classified documents. The team from DOGE reportedly consisted of four people under the age of 30.
When they attempted to enter the secured room, there was a conflict between them and the USAID security service, during which one of the DOGE employees called Musk personally and the latter threatened the guards to involve the U.S. Marshals Service if his team was not allowed to enter.
