Erdogan spoke in favor of a fair settlement of the Ukrainian conflict
Turkey is in favor of a fair settlement of the conflict in Ukraine. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said this on February 5 following talks with his German counterpart Frank-Walter Steinmeier.
"We have long advocated for [the conflict] in Ukraine to end with a just peace," Gazete Duvar quoted the Turkish leader as saying.
Erdogan also noted that Turkey will continue to cooperate with Germany on the escalation in the Middle East, Syria and the Ukrainian conflict.
Earlier in the day, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said that the country expects that specific US initiatives to resolve the conflict in Ukraine will appear in the near future, but all sides will need to come to a serious consensus in order to make a decision.
The special operation to protect Donbass, which Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on February 24, 2022, is still ongoing. The decision was taken against the backdrop of the worsening situation in the region.
