The Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline could potentially be used to supply hydrogen to Germany from Finland. This was reported by Handelsblatt on February 5, citing sources in German government circles.

"Also expressed ideas about the possible transportation of natural gas from Russia after the conclusion of a peace agreement in Ukraine," - stated in the material.

It is also noted that the issue of the resumption of "Nord Stream - 2" has become uncomfortable for all political forces in Germany before the federal elections on February 23. The German government, in turn, does not want to leave the fate of the pipeline to chance, the publication added.

Earlier, on February 3, the German party "Alternative for Germany" (AdG) published its election program, which included a demand for the immediate lifting of anti-Russian sanctions and the restoration of the Nord Stream and Nord Stream-2 pipelines. In addition, the AdG pointed to the growing divergence between German and U.S. interests.

At the end of December 2024, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic suggested that the U.S. may wish to acquire Nord Stream within a year in order to supply gas from Russia to Europe. At the same time, Igor Yushkov, an analyst at the National Energy Security Fund, considered such a scenario unlikely.

Leaks at the Nord Stream and Nord Stream-2 pipelines were discovered in September 2022. Two powerful underwater explosions were registered at the pipelines. Traces of explosives were found at the accident site. Russia is seeking an international investigation into the terrorist attacks. In February 2024, Russian President Vladimir Putin said in an interview with American journalist Tucker Carlson that the CIA was responsible for the explosions.
