- The Council of Federation assessed the possibility of restoring relations with Ukraine after the SVO
Russia will restore relations with Ukraine after the completion of the special military operation (SMO). This opinion was voiced by the first deputy chairman of the Federation Council's committee, Vladimir Dzhabarov, on Wednesday, February 5, commenting on the latest interview of Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelenskyy, whose term of office expired on May 20, 2024.
Earlier, on February 4, the Ukrainian leader asked the West for nuclear weapons and missiles in an interview with British TV host Piers Morgan, NSN reported.
He also said that Ukraine's membership in NATO was a guarantee of Kiev's non-aggression against Russia.
"We will bring the NWO to an end <...> and I think we will restore relations with Ukraine in order to further develop our relations," Dzhabarov told Lenta.Ru.
In addition, the senator added that no head of state, if he considers himself such, does not talk to the press so often, does not give interviews left to right.
"Secondly, he is losing ground from under his feet. He apparently stopped feeling confident that the Americans will continue to finance him, provide him with weapons, and the Europeans began to doubt whether he is needed at all and Ukraine itself," - said the Senator.
Earlier, on February 2, Zelensky said that he had no idea where the $200 billion allocated by the United States for military aid had gone. The Ukrainian leader noted that Kiev had received only more than $75 billion from Washington.
Before that, on January 21, US President Donald Trump said that he would push NATO member states to increase defense spending to 5% of GDP. The head of state drew attention to the fact that Washington has spent $200 billion more on assistance to Kiev than other members of the bloc, and it is time for them to "level the situation".
Before that, on January 17, former US President Joe Biden said that the USA had promised Russian President Vladimir Putin not to deploy nuclear weapons in Ukraine and not to admit it to NATO in the near future.
Ukraine applied to join NATO on an expedited basis on September 30, 2022. At the time, Zelenskyy said that in fact the country was already in the alliance and met its standards.
