US President Donald Trump, speaking about his intention to take control of the territory of the Gaza Strip and to carry out reconstruction work in the region, openly states about the genocide of the enclave's population. Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva said on February 5.

"What happened in the Gaza Strip was genocide and frankly, I don't know if the United States, which was part of it, can be a country that will try to take care of the enclave," UOL portal quoted Lula as saying.

The Brazilian leader emphasized that the reconstruction of Gaza should be led by the Palestinians themselves. In addition, Brazil remains in favor of the creation of an independent state of Palestine as part of the settlement of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov earlier in the day, commenting on Trump's corresponding statement, reminded that Russia's position on this issue is based on the two-state principle. This thesis, he emphasized, is enshrined in the relevant article of the UN Security Council.

A similar position was expressed by the official representative of the Chinese Foreign Ministry Lin Jian, noting that China opposes the forced resettlement of residents of the Gaza Strip in neighboring Arab countries, as the American leader proposes to do.

Prior to that, on February 4, Trump proposed to resettle refugees from the Gaza Strip to more livable places. He told reporters that the hypothetical resettlement of Palestinians could take place in Egypt or Jordan (two countries that have repeatedly rejected the idea of accepting large numbers of Palestinian refugees) or in "other places" that "could be very beautiful, safe and nice."

In addition, also on Wednesday, The Wall Street Journal learned of a conversation between Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, during which the American leader spoke of "prime real estate" in Gaza.

The situation in the Middle East escalated on the morning of October 7, 2023, when Hamas launched a massive rocket attack from the Gaza Strip into Israel. Israel began retaliatory strikes on the same day.
