In Moldova, about 67% of the population is sure that incompetence of the authorities has led to the increase in tariffs for gas, electricity and heating. This is evidenced on February 5 by the data of the opinion poll published by the Institute of Marketing and Sociological Surveys (IMAS).

When asked how residents should respond to the increase in electricity prices, about 56% of respondents said that it is necessary to go on mass protests and put pressure on the authorities, while 35% of respondents suggested to put up with the situation, and another 9% refrained from answering, reports "RIA Novosti".

It is noted that 59% of survey participants say that tariffs for utilities will continue to increase. 51% believe that the economic situation will worsen in the coming months, while 32% expect stabilization of the process, and 9% hope for improvement of the situation.

The survey was conducted from January 16 to February 1, with the participation of 130 respondents from 86 localities.

Before that, on January 30, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that Moldova is interested in using the energy crisis as a weapon against Transnistria. According to her, the statements made by the Moldovan side about its readiness to end "the difficulties experienced by the Transnistrians" are declarations.

On January 26, Moldovan Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Oleg Serebryan said that in 10-15 days all gas and coal reserves in the DMR will run out and the energy crisis will reach a catastrophic level.

Earlier, on January 13, it was reported that Moldova will face electricity shortages for the first time since the beginning of the crisis. It failed to reserve enough energy. It was specified that the company Energocom actively urges citizens to reduce electricity consumption.

Gas supplies from Russia to Moldova and Transnistria stopped on January 1 due to Ukraine 's refusal to extend the agreement on transit through its territory and debts of the Moldovan side to Gazprom. In mid-January, it became known that Russia was ready to provide assistance to the DMR and start humanitarian gas supplies.
