Vein health is an important aspect of overall health that is directly related to lifestyle. Many people suffer from a common problem - varicose veins, which arise as a result of various factors. On February 6, Andrei Korolkov, a phlebologist at SM-Clinica, told Izvestia about how lifestyle affects the health of veins.

According to the specialist, the mechanism of varicose veins development is the violation of normal functioning of the venous system. He considered the main aspects of the disease.

Veins have special valves that allow blood to move only in one direction - to the heart. If the valves do not function properly (e.g., due to damage or insufficiency), blood begins to stagnate and move backward, which creates increased pressure in the veins. In addition, exposure to various factors, such as prolonged sitting or standing, and heavy physical labor, increases the pressure in the veins. This leads to their stretching and deformation, which over time can cause dilation of the venous walls.

Also, with constant increased pressure, the vein walls become thinner and less elastic. This leads to their deformation and the formation of varicose knots, and the violation of normal blood circulation causes stagnation of blood in the veins, which contributes to the formation of blood clots and the development of inflammatory processes.

Korolkov specified that in addition to the above factors on the development of varicose veins can affect the genetic predisposition, sedentary lifestyle, overweight, hormonal changes (for example, during pregnancy or menopause), as well as wearing uncomfortable shoes and high heels.

Modern lifestyle with low physical activity, as well as overweight contributes to the deterioration of blood circulation. In this case, the walls of veins lose their elasticity and strength, which increases the risk of varicose veins. Wearing uncomfortable shoes, especially high heels, can also aggravate the situation, creating additional pressure on the venous walls.

"Nutrition also plays an important role in maintaining healthy veins. Being overweight puts extra strain on the venous system, increasing the risk of chronic venous insufficiency. In addition, stress and emotional tension can negatively affect the condition of the veins, causing vascular spasms and worsening blood circulation," summarized Korolkov.

Last year, September 23, "Izvestia" was told that the majority of Russians surveyed (62.2%) believe that they adhere to the principles of healthy eating, and 91% of them prepare healthy food at home. At the same time, 35% of respondents say that it is difficult for them to adhere to a healthy diet. This follows from the results of a joint study of the loyalty program "X5 Club" and the network of technological fitness clubs Spirit. Fitness.
