- Political analyst predicts tough times for the European Union because of Trump's rise to power
So far, US President Donald Trump is dealing with Canada, Mexico and China, but in the future he will take on the European Union (EU). This opinion was expressed by American political scientist Malek Dudakov on Wednesday, February 5. He predicted difficult times for most leaders of European countries because of the coming to power of the Republican.
On the eve, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said that the republic was preparing to sign a deal with the US separately from the European Union (EU) to preserve economic relations between the countries, RT reported.
He noted that Budapest had always known about the return of US President Donald Trump, so it was preparing, according to the kp.ru website. According to Orban, there are constant negotiations between the countries.
According to Dudakov, for the Eurobureaucracy in Brussels and for representatives of the liberal part of the European establishment, indeed, quite difficult times are expected. The political scientist noted that they are ideological opponents of Trump, he does not perceive them as his own and is going to press them in a variety of ways, first of all with all sorts of trade, tariff wars.
"Europe has a very large surplus in the U.S. trade balance, about $150 billion, that is, Europeans need the U.S. market much more than Americans need the European market. Therefore, the Americans have an advantage here, which they will use," the Americanist said in a conversation with Lenta.Ru.
The expert noted that Orban or Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, who are right-wing politicians and have good relations with the new American leader, will feel good during the Trump administration. Meanwhile, difficult times are coming for most European leaders, including French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, Polish, Danish and Spanish Prime Ministers Donald Tusk, Mette Frederiksen, Pedro Sanchez and others.
Earlier, on January 27, the media reported that the Trump administration's disregard for EU heads of state had become a cold shower for European officials in Brussels.
The day before, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said that Europe would face problems with the return of the American president to the White House. He explained that he was referring to Trump's demand for European countries to increase defense spending.
