Izhevsk police captain detained for passing information on deceased residents

In Udmurtia, a 40-year-old police captain on duty in one of the departments of the Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the city of Izhevsk was detained for abuse of authority. The operation was carried out by joint forces of the Udmurt Republic's FSB of Russia and the Investigative Department (ID) of the Investigative Committee (IC) of Russia's Investigative Committee (IC) for the region on February 4.

"According to the investigation, from February to December 2024, the accused <...> transferred official information about the facts of death of citizens and the addresses of the location of the bodies of the deceased to the representative of the ritual organization for a monthly fee of about 50 thousand rubles," - stated on February 5 on the website of the regional Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation.

A criminal case was opened under paragraph "e" of part 3 of article 286 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Exceeding official powers, committed out of selfish or other personal interest"). The defendant was placed in a temporary detention center, he faces up to 10 years in prison.

Prior to that, on February 3, a case of abuse of power was initiated against the deputy governor of Rostov region, Minister of Finance Lilia Fedotova (paragraph "c" part 3 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). According to the investigation, in 2020, Fedotova unreasonably attracted loans in a commercial bank for the amount of 12 billion at rates of more than 6% per annum for the needs of the region in the presence of free balances of budgetary finances. The damage to the regional budget amounted to 1.9 billion rubles.
