"Rostec will present the PD-8 aircraft engine for the SJ-100 airliner at the NAIS-2025 national civil aviation infrastructure exhibition in Moscow. This was reported in the press service of the state corporation on February 5.

It is noted that the engine was created using the latest Russian materials and advanced technologies. Leading enterprises of the Russian aviation industry were involved in its development.

"The main novelty, of course, will be the PD-8 for the short-range airliner SJ-100, which is demonstrated to the general public for the first time," the press service quotes Rostec's First Deputy Director General Vladimir Artyakov as saying.

He specified that the engine will soon be lifted into the air as part of the SJ-100 airliner for flight tests.

The NAIS-2025 exhibition will be held on February 5 and 6 at Crocus Expo in Moscow. The event will be attended by the leading holdings of the state corporation, they will discuss the creation of a pool of replacement engines, service maintenance and increase of modern repair capacity.

The day before it was reported that NAIS exhibition will unite more than 140 companies - suppliers of equipment and technologies from Russia, Belarus, China and Iran. For the first time, it will include a separate sector of unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) and drone countermeasures, as well as a "Job Fair" space, where experienced specialists will be able to get acquainted with the companies' vacancies, and graduates - with available internships.

Earlier, on January 28, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the need to "open the skies" for civilian drones in Russia as soon as possible. A ban on their launch was introduced in some regions of the country in May 2023. The decision was due to the need to ensure the safety of the airspace.

Also on that day, Putin said that 15 centers of unmanned aviation are already operating in Russia, but in the near future it is planned to open another 48. In addition, the head of state pointed out that by 2030, Russia should become one of the global technological leaders in the field of UAV technology.

In May last year, the Russian government announced the delivery of 990 airplanes for civil aviation needs to air carriers by 2030. The comprehensive development program also provides for the delivery of 20 units per year of SSJ-New aircraft, as well as the creation of MS-21 aircraft up to the possibility of supplying 72 units per year from 2029, with deliveries of the first nine machines starting in 2025.
