The units of 120-mm Sani mortars and 82-mm Podnos mortars are successfully carrying out their combat missions to destroy enemy equipment and manpower in the Kharkiv direction of the Special Military Operation (SMO) zone. This was reported by the Russian Defense Ministry on February 5.
"Servicemen of the "North" group of troops continue to strike at firing positions, military facilities and equipment of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) in the zone of the Special Military Operation (SMO). <...> There is daily harassing fire on enemy positions. Mortars have created a network of concealed firing points to reduce the time of roll-up and fire damage", - reported in the military department.
Such work is carried out continuously, intelligence constantly identifies suitable targets: cars, unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) calculations, armored pickup trucks.
"Worked well, worked on manpower and light equipment. There is no difficulty as such - if you understand what you are doing, then, accordingly, quickly work out," - shared his impressions after the battle, the gunner of 82-mm mortar with the call sign Kuzon.
It is reported that reconnaissance of the terrain, identification of targets and determination of coordinates are conducted by UAV units, after which all information is transmitted to mortar calculations.
"Reconnaissance flies out, identifies targets - infantry, mortars and so on, and give us the coordinates, we suppress. <...> We must always be ready to repel an attack in case of anything," said the commander of a 120-mm mortar with the call sign Tulas.
The mortars are fired from different distances and in different conditions depending on the combat mission. For the 82-mm mortar, the preferred targets are enemy infantry, light vehicles and firing points in relative proximity. At the same time, the 120-mm can hit drone launching points and fortified firing positions at a considerable distance from itself.
On February 4, the Russian Armed Forces (AF) destroyed a stronghold and living force of the Ukrainian army with calculations of TOS-1A Solntsepek heavy flamethrower systems and combat drones in Kharkiv Region. It is specified that a group of surviving Ukrainian Armed Forces fighters attempted to retreat to neighboring positions from the fortification. Subsequently, it was hit by attack drones.
On the same day, the Defense Ministry showed footage of an assault on an AFU stronghold on the Krasnoarmeyskoye direction. After destroying defense firing points, the Russian Armed Forces attack drones in pairs entered the forest belt where the AFU stronghold was located.
On February 2, the Russian Defense Ministry said that Russian servicemen hit the infrastructure of military airfields, fuel storage facilities used for the interests of the AFU, as well as accumulations of Ukrainian fighters' manpower and equipment in 153 areas. In addition, air defense means (air defense) shot down a HIMARS shell and 44 AFU drones during the day.
