The crew of the Mi-28 attack helicopter, acting as part of a mixed tactical group, was able to thwart an attempt to rotate units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) in one of the border districts of Kursk region. This was reported in the Ministry of Defense (MoD) of the Russian Federation on February 5.

"While performing a combat mission to support ground troops, the pilots of the army aviation carried out missile launches at specified coordinates destroying armored vehicles and personnel of the AFU. After the strike, the crews performed anti-missile maneuvering at extremely low altitude with the firing of heat traps preventing the enemy's MANPADS missiles from hitting," the ministry said in a statement.

It is also specified that the advanced aviation gunner involved in the operation confirmed the successful defeat and destruction of the target.

A day earlier, on February 4, the Defense Ministry reported the repulsion of three attacks of the Ukrainian army in the Kursk region.

On the same day, it was reported that air defense (air defense) assets shot down 68 Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and a Neptun missile over Russian territory overnight. In addition, with the help of operational-tactical aviation, attack drones, missile troops and artillery, the infrastructure of the AFU military airfields was hit.

The AFU attacked Russian positions in the border areas of the Kursk region on August 6, 2024. The situation in the region was recognized as a state of emergency of federal character. The liquidation of the Ukrainian militants who invaded the Russian territory is underway.

The special operation to protect Donbass, the beginning of which was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken against the background of the aggravated situation in the region.
