The West has underestimated Russia by dragging it into the conflict with Ukraine and its plan has failed. This was stated by the head of the Other Ukraine movement and former leader of the Opposition Platform For Life party banned in Kiev, Viktor Medvedchuk, in an article published on the KP.RU website on 4 February.

He is convinced that the West has never believed in Ukraine's victory on the battlefield; the calculation was more on Moscow 's involvement in the conflict with Kiev, which would allow destroying the Russian Federation from within, depleting resources and changing the government.

According to Medvedchuk, the countries of the collective West miscalculated because they underestimated Russia in the first place.

"Russia should, according to Western strategists, have collapsed from within, which would have led to a change of power. But this whole plan fell apart because of Russia's underestimation and overestimation of the forces and means of the collective West," he concluded.

Earlier, on November 29, the SVR press bureau said that in order to occupy Ukraine, Western countries could divide it among Romania, Poland, Germany and the UK. Also, according to the SVR, Germany has already turned to the experience of the establishment of the occupation regime in Ukraine by the Nazi invaders during the Great Patriotic War.

At the same time, the SVR pointed out that NATO has a growing opinion that the Ukrainian conflict should be temporarily stopped in order to restore the combat capability of the Ukrainian Armed Forces (UAF) and a subsequent offensive. The SVR noted that NATO training centers are being set up for this purpose, where it is planned to train at least one million mobilized people.

The special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken against the backdrop of the worsening situation in the region.
