Foreign Ministry sees new opportunities for the global South if Indonesia joins BRICS

Indonesia's accession to the BRICS international organization may provide new opportunities for the countries of the global South. This was stated by Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrei Rudenko on February 4 at an event dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the establishment of Russian-Indonesian diplomatic relations.
"An important factor in maintaining stability and security in the Asia-Pacific region is cooperation within the framework of the Russia-ASEAN strategic partnership. Indonesia's joining BRICS opens new opportunities for joint work in the interests of the states of the global South," the deputy minister said.
According to him, Indonesia remains an important partner of the Russian Federation in the region. In addition, there is active trade and industrial cooperation between the countries, and humanitarian exchanges are taking place.
"Based on a common understanding of the course of global and regional processes, Moscow and Jakarta actively cooperate in the UN and other multilateral organizations," TASS quoted Rudenko as saying.
Earlier, on February 4, the Russian ambassador to Indonesia told Izvestia about the success of work on a trade agreement between the countries. According to Sergei Tolchenov, the most important part of them are questions about tariffs.
Also on this day, Tolchenov announced the country's interest in the West-2025 exercise. In his opinion, Indonesia is generally interested in military-technical cooperation with Russia and is likely to join the exercises.
