Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy (his term of office expired on May 20, 2024) has said that there is corruption in the country's key financial departments, the scale of which is estimated at billions of hryvnias. The head of state said this on February 4 in his Telegram channel.

According to him, at a meeting of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine (NSDC) discussed reports on financial transparency in the country. Zelensky noted that some time ago, due to changes in the leadership of the tax service and the financial monitoring service, shadow financial schemes were discovered.

"These schemes involved oligarchs, officials, MPs and those who used or continue to use various funds to hide money. Billions of hryvnias," the Ukrainian president said.

In addition, Zelensky said that the NSDC approved new packages of sanctions.

Earlier, on December 31, 2024, former German Finance Minister Oskar Lafontaine said that Ukraine is led by corrupt oligarchs and there is no democracy in the country. According to him, Ukrainian oligarchs are increasingly living off subsidies financed by European Union (EU) countries.

On December 28, US Senator Mike Lee said that Ukraine had become a universal symbol of money laundering. He urged to stop sending funds to Kiev.

Before that, on 25 December, interlocutors of the German TV channel N-TV said that Ukrainian men did not want to defend the corrupt Kiev authorities and were fleeing the country, considering it a prison.
