Zelensky demanded to give Ukraine nuclear weapons instead of NATO membership

The Ukrainian president, whose term of office expires on May 20, 2024, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, has demanded that the West give nuclear weapons and missiles to Ukraine before it joins NATO. He made the corresponding statement in an interview with British journalist Piers Morgan.
"So let's do this: give us back nuclear weapons, give us missile systems. Partners, help us finance an army of one million [troops], send your contingent," Zelensky said. The video was published on February 4 on Morgan's page on social network X.
According to the head of the Kiev regime, the path of Ukraine's accession to NATO may take decades and it does not depend on the country itself. He added that nuclear weapons are allegedly necessary for Ukraine to defend itself.
In addition, Zelensky said that Russia should return lost territories to Ukraine if it is denied NATO membership, as this was the purpose of launching the Special Military Operation (SMO).
Earlier, on February 2, Zelenskyy said that he had no idea where the $200bn allocated by the USA for military aid had gone. The Ukrainian leader noted that Kiev had only received more than $75bn from Washington.
Before that, on January 21, US President Donald Trump said that he would push NATO member states to increase defense spending to 5% of GDP. The head of state drew attention to the fact that Washington has spent $200 billion more on assistance to Kiev than other members of the bloc, and it is time for them to "level the situation".
Before that, on January 17, former US President Joe Biden said that the USA had promised Russian President Vladimir Putin not to deploy nuclear weapons in Ukraine and not to admit it to NATO in the near future.
Ukraine applied to join NATO on an expedited basis on September 30, 2022. At the time, Zelenskyy said that in fact the country was already in the alliance and met its standards.
