In Thuringia in eastern Germany, 47-year-old historian Mirko Kühn discovered a secret Nazi hangar for airplanes. This was reported by the German newspaper Bild on February 4.

"Here, right at the airport, the Nazis built an underground airplane hangar. The hangar was codenamed "Alpendole". There are eyewitnesses, aerial photos and measurements that confirm my theory," the historian told the publication.

According to Kühn, the hangar is about 200 meters long. He stated that the width of the structure in this case should be 25 meters wide and at least five meters high. The historian added that at this scale, the structure should have been able to accommodate and shelter about a dozen airplanes from bombs.

The historian also said that he was able to identify the entrances to the building in old photographs.

Kühn believes it would have been possible to excavate one of the hangar's supposed emergency exits. According to him, the GDR intelligence services tried to do this back in 1964, but the Stasi stopped the work because of an alleged poisonous gas leak

Earlier, on December 17, 2024, it was reported that in Germany, a World War II bunker was put up for forced auction with an initial bid of €1. It is specified that the bomb shelter built in 1941 is located in the north of the city of Hamm.
