540 new medicines have appeared in Russia

In Russia, 540 new drugs have appeared, the total volume of packages of which amounted to 52.1 million. This was reported to "Izvestia" on February 5 by the press service of the CRPT (the operator of the state labeling system "Honest Mark").

As explained in the CRPT, pharmaceutical companies can produce a drug with one active substance (international nonproprietary name, INN), but under different brand names.

"We also see growth in the range of drugs in terms of the number of new active substances. At the end of 2024, 61 new INNs were introduced into circulation with a total volume of 3.6 million packs. Of these, 36 were imported and 24 were produced in Russia. One INN was characterized by both supplies from abroad and local production", - added Egor Zhavoronkov, Head of the Department for work with socially important goods of the CRPT.

The new INNs refer to various pharmacological groups, the press service specified. They include sex hormones and modulators of genital function (20% of the total volume of new INN), vitamins (17%), cough and cold remedies (10%), myorelaxants (10%), as well as drugs for the treatment of diseases associated with acidity disorders (8%).

Earlier, December 23, it was reported that the concept of the list of strategically important drugs and mechanisms for its formation will be introduced into the law on drug provision of the population. The bill, developed by the Ministry of Health, was supported by the Russian government. The list will include drugs that provide the basic needs of Russian health care.
