Negotiations on the second phase of the ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip between Hamas and the Israeli government have begun. This was reported by Elnashra newspaper on February 4, citing a representative of the movement.

"The second phase of contacts and negotiations has begun. We are concerned and interested in the current phase of shelter, relief and reconstruction of our people in the Gaza Strip," the media outlet quoted a Hamas spokesman as saying about the start of a new round of negotiations.

He also emphasized that the Israeli government is obstructing the humanitarian protocol in the ceasefire agreement, evading its implementation and delaying the negotiations.

On the eve, February 3, it was reported that Hamas expressed readiness to begin negotiations on the details of the second phase of the current truce in the Gaza Strip. It is noted that the repeated demands of US President Donald Trump that Egypt and Jordan accept 1.5 million residents of Gaza complicated the negotiations on the second phase.

The ceasefire regime in the Gaza Strip began to operate in the morning of January 19. At that time, the Palestinian Hamas movement handed over three Israeli hostages - Romy Gonen, Emily Damari and Doron Steinbrecher - to representatives of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). The next day, Israel released the first 90 Palestinian prisoners as part of the deal. The hostage exchange continues.

The situation in the Middle East escalated on the morning of October 7, 2023, when Hamas launched a massive rocket attack from the Gaza Strip into Israel. On the same day, Israel began retaliatory strikes.
