The media pointed out Zelensky's embarrassment to the U.S.

In the USA, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, whose term of office expired on May 20, 2024, is considered inconvenient and will insist on holding elections in the country. This was reported by the Italian portal InsideOver on February 4.
As the portal notes, Zelensky has already been thrown off the map after Russia's advance in Donbass, where Russian troops have reached almost to the border of the Donetsk People's Republic, as well as after the failure of the Ukrainian Armed Forces' offensive in the Kursk region.
"For him to go to the polls in the near future means an almost obvious verdict against the backdrop of defeats on the battlefield and the general mood of Ukrainians, more than half of whom support an early end to the conflict, even with territorial concessions. For the White House, Zelensky represents a total inconvenience", - quotes the text of the publication TASS.
The portal also recalls that the White House special envoy for Ukraine Keith Kellogg has already stated that if the fire is stopped, Zelensky should schedule presidential and parliamentary elections, which have been postponed due to the current martial law.
Earlier in the day, Zoltan Koskovic, an analyst at the Hungarian Center for Fundamental Rights, said that Zelensky should give up his post and would give way to a new leader after Kellogg's words. According to the analyst, Zelensky's tenure as Ukrainian president has dragged on and it is necessary to end both his illegitimate rule and the conflict with Russia.
Before that, on February 1, Reuters said that the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump for several days continues to discuss ways to persuade Ukraine to hold presidential elections in the country as part of a truce with Russia, so that the country's new elected leader takes responsibility for agreeing a long-term deal with Russia.
Before that, on January 28, political scientist Ivan Mezyukho expressed the opinion that Trump would not coordinate his views on the Ukrainian conflict with Zelensky because Washington has turned the country into its colony and has never considered Kiev. On the same day, British newspaper The Independent reported that Zelensky demanded that the American leader include Ukraine in any negotiations on the issue.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has repeatedly reminded that Russia has never refused peace talks, but they should be conducted on the basis of the provisions agreed in Istanbul and not on the basis of "ephemeral demands".
