The First Moscow State Medical University has established the status of Sechenov Professor

Scientists of Sechenov University will be able to receive the status of "Sechenov Professor". It will be awarded to employees who have created unique teams and introduced their developments into Russian education and science. A staff member awarded this title will be able to create his own scientific school and scientific and technological institute. Such a decision was made at a meeting of the Academic Council of Sechenov University.

On the initiative of the Rector of Sechenov University, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences Pyotr Glybochko, the First Moscow State Medical University will establish the status of "Sechenov Professor". "These are special people who make a great contribution both to the development of the University and to the development of our country," the rector said.

To become a Sechenov Professor will be able to head of the department, whose achievements meet three criteria, said First Vice-Rector of the First Moscow State Medical University Andrei Svistunov. To get this status, a scientist must have a team of at least five of his students who have already defended themselves and are now working at Sechenov University. Another criterion is own technology or development brought to mass production together with industrial partners - it should be not just patented, but implemented in the practice of Russian healthcare or education. Finally, a Sechenov professor must work in a structural unit that has been included for at least three consecutive years in the rating of key performance indicators of units at the high efficiency level. This indicator is the most integrative and characterizes the contribution to the development program of the university, said Andrei Svistunov.

The first vice-rector also explained what preferences the new status will give. In addition to a one-time material reward of three million rubles, Sechenov professor will receive financial support for the creation or support of his own innovative scientific school. Now the university has 8 such schools. In addition, the holder of the high status will have the opportunity to create at the university its own scientific and technological institute in the scientific direction. "The institute will be created at the head of Sechenov Professor, will receive financial support from the university for the development of those technological, product lines, which are the groundwork for obtaining the status of Sechenov Professor", - explained the first vice-rector. Two more preferences - holding an annual assembly day on the scientific and technological direction, which is conducted by the scientific school, as well as a star of honor in the Museum of the History of Medicine of the First Moscow State Medical University, which will allow to inscribe the name of an outstanding scientist who made a significant and unique contribution to the development of the university, in its history.

"Sechenov Professor" will become the highest qualification status for scientific and pedagogical workers. The rector noted that in fact, Sechenov University is creating a model of management of university science in medicine. At the university one can go all the way - to get education, become a graduate student, assistant, associate professor of the department, then - professor. A professor has the opportunity to become head of the department, and in the future - Sechenov professor, which will create its own scientific school and scientific and technological institute. "These are very good preferences for people who are engaged in science and education," said Pyotr Glybochko.

He informed the Academic Council that there are already the first applicants for the new status. A competition will be announced in the near future.
