Over two days, 40 flares have been registered on the Sun, 13 of which are of M class. A corresponding statement appeared on the official website of the Solar Astronomy Laboratory of the Institute for Space Research (IKI RAS) on February 4.

"The Sun has just registered another M flare of level M4.7. A total of 40 flares, including 13 M-level events, have been registered over the incomplete two days (yesterday and today), so the burst of activity is indeed significant," the statement reads.

Scientists concluded that no really strong solar explosions have been recorded, as the energy is still only being wasted on many small events.

"For the Earth, this regime is generally favorable, but we must look at what happens next. The centers will be in the zone of direct influence on the Earth for at least two or three more days," - follows from the publication.

Solar flares depending on the power of X-ray radiation are divided into five classes: A, B, C, M and maximum X.

The previous solar flare was reported by the Fedorov Institute of Applied Geophysics on January 21. Powerful flare lasted 48 minutes and had a category M3.3.
