The court recognized the crimes of German fascist invaders on the territory of Kalmykia during the Great Patriotic War as genocide. This was reported on February 4 in the Telegram-channel of the Investigative Committee (IC) of the Russian Federation.

It is noted that the evidence collected by the agency, along with other materials recognized by the court sufficient to establish the fact of genocide.

"Investigators were able to fully recreate the picture of the commission by Hitlerites of cruel crimes against the peace and security of mankind. It is reliably established that during the period of World War II the Germans shelled and bombed settlements of the Kalmyk ASSR. They deliberately set fire to crops and prevented the harvest, seeking to leave local residents and the front without food," - specified in the press service of the IC.

In December last year, the Supreme Court of Kabardino-Balkaria reported that the crimes of the Nazi invaders, which were committed on the territory of the republic during the Second World War, were recognized as genocide of the peoples of the USSR. The court began examining written evidence in the case a month earlier.

In 2025, May 9 marks the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War. In January 1945, the USSR army launched an offensive against Berlin. As a result of combat operations at 00:43 Moscow time on May 9, the commanders-in-chief signed an act of unconditional surrender of Germany, which served as the end of the Great Patriotic War.
