The director-general of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Grossi, has arrived at the Kiev electricity substation. He reported about it on February 4 in the social network X.

"I am at the Kiev Electric Substation, an important part of Ukraine's power system necessary to ensure nuclear safety. A nuclear accident can occur both as a result of a direct attack on the station and as a result of a disruption of power supply," Grossi wrote.

The purpose of the visit is to assess the situation at the Kiev substation and provide assistance to prevent a nuclear accident, the IAEA director general explained.

According to Grossi, it is this substation that is crucial for the safety of Ukraine's nuclear power industry.

Earlier, on January 23, Grossi said that the situation with nuclear safety at the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant was not improving and the IAEA mission was far from being completed. He specified that the agency's inspectors at Zaporizhzhya NPP had heard frequent explosions outside the facility, which means "a continuing threat to nuclear safety."

A day earlier, Reuters reported that Grossi was preparing to make visits to Russia and Ukraine in the next few weeks.
