Polina Koroleva, a participant in the liberation of Kaluga from Nazi invaders, died at the age of 104. This was announced by the Governor of the Kaluga region Vladislav Shapsha on February 4.
"Deepest condolences to relatives and friends. The memory of this amazing man will remain with us forever," he wrote in his Telegram channel.
The governor specified that she did not live to the 105th anniversary and the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory. Shapsha called her death a great loss for the residents of the region, including for him personally.
Koroleva was born in the village of Ustinovka, Ferzikovsky district, Kaluga region, where she lived all her life. In 2016, she was awarded the title of honorary citizen of Kaluga.
The last liberator of the city went through the entire Great Patriotic War (WWII), ending it with the rank of senior lieutenant of medical service. She was awarded medals "For Military Merit", "For the capture of Koenigsberg" and "For Victory over Germany in the Great Patriotic War 1941-1945".
The territory of the present Kaluga region was finally liberated on September 17, 1943.
