In Moldova, the opposition Socialist Party (PSRM) demanded that the authorities lift sanctions against Russia and restore economic ties with the state. Such a statement was made on February 4 by former Moldovan President and party leader Igor Dodon.

"The Party of Socialists demands to cancel the sanctions imposed against Russia, urgently restore direct air communication with the Russian Federation, resume money transfers, start negotiations to obtain cheaper energy resources and open the sales market," - stated in the Telegram-channel of Dodon.

Earlier, in December 2024, Dodon said that the government to be formed in the country after parliamentary elections in 2025 would restore relations with Russia. He also promised to lift all sanctions that are not in Moldova's national interests, including the resumption of direct flights to Moscow and money transfers.

In October, Moldova held a referendum on the country's European integration and presidential elections among 11 candidates. Only nine of Moldova's 36 districts voted in favor of changing the constitution for the sake of EU accession, while in Gagauzia more than 90% of those who voted were against European integration. On 25 October, the Moldovan Central Electoral Commission recognized the referendum as valid, approved its final results and sent them to the country's Constitutional Court for approval.
