In the US, a man was convicted of organizing dog fights for 475 years

A court in the US state of Georgia has sentenced a man to 475 years in prison for his involvement in organizing dog fights and animal cruelty. As stated by the authorities, this is the longest sentence related to dogfighting. This was reported by NBC News on February 4.
According to the publication, the case began in 2022, when an employee of an American online retailer reported to the authorities about several chained dogs on the property of a local resident's home. In November of that year, law enforcement officers searched his property with the permission of a judge.
They found 107 dogs on the property showing signs of abuse, some of which were underweight. The property lacked food, water and booths, with many dogs chained too close together - a tactic to develop aggression in dogs, NBC News reported, citing the local prosecutor's office.
His involvement 57-year-old Dallas resident Vincent Burel in organizing the dog fights the man denies, while whether he will appeal the verdict is still unclear.
Evidence proving his guilt was found on the man's property, including a dog treadmill, a special device for opening a dog's mouth during fights, a first aid kit for injured animals, medications available only to veterinarians, and documents for the sale of dogs.
The police reportedly confiscated the animals and afterwards they were adopted by a non-profit organization.
Earlier, in December 2024, the media reported that an Australian resident was charged with animal cruelty after the remains of 98 kangaroos he allegedly shot were found on a military base.
