Wagenknecht called a possible metals deal between the U.S. and Ukraine a disaster

A possible deal between the USA and Ukraine on the supply of rare-earth metals to the American side could be a disaster for the residents of Europe. This was stated on February 4 by the co-chair of the German party "Sarah Wagenknecht Union: for reason and justice" (SSV) Sarah Wagenknecht.
"What talk of peace within 24 hours? Trump will continue the proxy war if Ukraine provides rare earth metals and other raw materials in return. A great 'deal' for the US, but a disaster for people across Europe," her post on social network X (formerly Twitter) read.
Earlier in the day, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov described US President Donald Trump's metals proposal as buying aid. He clarified that it would be aid based on commercial rather than gratuitous basis.
The day before, Trump said that in exchange for financial and military aid, the US expects Ukraine to guarantee the supply of rare earth metals. Separately, he emphasized that the U.S. will require the EU to increase funding support for Ukraine to "equalize" them with U.S. investments.
Earlier, on January 20, the White House website published Trump's executive order suspending Washington's development assistance to other countries for 90 days. Later, on January 25, Reuters reported that the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) froze programs to support foreign countries, including Ukraine, following a State Department dispatch approved by Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
Western countries have stepped up military and financial support for Kiev amid Russia's special operation to protect Donbass, which was announced by the Russian president on February 24, 2022, after the situation in the region worsened due to shelling by the Ukrainian military.
