The EU has called for a review of its environmental policy

The European Union (EU) should reconsider its environmental policy after US President Donald Trump's decision to withdraw Washington from the Paris climate agreement. Eric Kaliniak, Member of the European Parliament (EP) from Slovakia, said in a statement to the European Commission (EC).

"On January 20, 2025, the newly elected President of the United States signed several executive orders, including one ordering the US Ambassador to the UN to immediately submit an official written notification of the US withdrawal from the Paris Agreement in accordance with the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change," Lenta.Ru quoted the text of the parliamentarian's appeal.

The MEP asked the EC whether the consequences of this step of the United States have been analyzed, in particular with regard to its impact on the "green policy" of the EU.

Since his inauguration, US President Trump has signed more than 200 new executive orders. Among them is the decree on withdrawal from the Paris climate agreement.

On January 28, Farhan Haq, deputy spokesman for the UN secretary general, said that the United States will withdraw from the Paris climate agreement on January 27, 2026, RT reported.

Earlier, on January 21, Alexander Kislov, head of the Department of Meteorology and Climatology at the Faculty of Geography of Lomonosov Moscow State University, said in an interview with NSN that Trump was guided by pragmatism to solve urgent problems when the United States withdrew from the Paris Agreement.

According to the specialist, the American leader took a pause in solving the problem of global warming to be able to assess its scale, and to develop methods of struggle that will not damage the industrial sphere, reports 360.ru.

The Paris climate agreement was adopted on December 12, 2015, following the 21st conference of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change in Paris. During Trump's first term, the United States officially withdrew from the agreement on November 4, 2019.
