The European Commission (EC) has agreed on a €250m strategy for Moldova's energy independence and sustainability for 2025. This was said in a statement of the EC, published on its official website on February 4.

"Today, the European Commission and the Republic of Moldova agreed on a two-year comprehensive strategy for Moldova's energy independence and sustainability. <...> According to this strategy, Moldova's total support will amount to €250 million for 2025, of which €100 million will be provided by the EU by mid-April," the publication reads.

It is also reported that the strategy includes €60 million in funding for more than 350,000 Transnistrian residents who were left in the cold in January after supplies were cut off.

Earlier, on January 30, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said that Moldova is interested in using the energy crisis as a weapon against Transnistria. According to her, the statements made by the Moldovan side about its readiness to end "the difficulties experienced by the Transnistrians" are declarations.

Before that, on January 13, it was reported that Moldova would face electricity shortages for the first time since the beginning of the crisis. It failed to reserve enough energy. It was specified that the company Energocom actively urges citizens to reduce electricity consumption.

Gas supplies from Russia to Moldova and Transnistria stopped on January 1 due to Ukraine 's refusal to extend the agreement on transit through its territory and debts of the Moldovan side to Gazprom. In mid-January, it became known that Russia was ready to provide assistance to the DMR and start humanitarian gas supplies.
