TheUSA needs a halt to hostilities in Ukraine to reduce spending on the Kiev regime. This was stated by the head of the second department of the CIS countries of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Aleksey Polishchuk, on February 4.

"The United States needs a halt in hostilities to reduce spending on the maintenance of the Kiev regime, which has become a loss-making asset for them, and to shift the burden of responsibility for its survival to European partners," he said in an interview with TASS.

Polishchuk also pointed out that Washington is the initiator of the Ukrainian crisis and is actively participating in the conflict on Kiev's side. He noted that the US is using the hostilities to maintain its "global hegemony."

In addition, Polishchuk emphasized that the US doctrinal documents have not undergone any changes and Russia is still seen as one of the main adversaries.

Earlier, on February 1, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, whose term of office expired on May 20, 2024, said that he expects the start of negotiations on a peaceful settlement of the Ukrainian conflict with the participation of Moscow, Kiev, Washington and Brussels. According to him, after talking to American leader Donald Trump, Kiev should move to some format of conversation with the Russian Federation. As Zelensky noted, at the moment consultations with the US presidential administration are of a general nature.

On the same day, it was reported that Trump's team has for several days continued to discuss ways to convince Ukraine to hold a presidential election in the country as part of a truce with Russian Federation so that the country's new elected leader takes responsibility for agreeing a long-term deal with Russia.

The last round of talks between Russia and Ukraine took place in Istanbul on March 29, 2022. They lasted about three hours. Later, Kiev officially refused contacts with Moscow. On October 4, 2022, the Ukrainian president put into effect the decision of the country's National Security and Defense Council on the impossibility of holding talks with Vladimir Putin.
