Lavrov pointed to a US plan to test the world system around the UN for strength

U.S. President Donald Trump and his team could have become one of the responsible powers, but instead they are apparently going to test the strength of the world system, which is built around the UN. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said this on February 4 in his article for the journal Russia in Global Politics.
He pointed out that the multipolar structure of the world is strengthening, and the United States is trying to prevent this, although it could in the near future, together with Russia, China and other powers of the global South, East, North and West, become one of the responsible centers of power.
"For now, it appears that the new U.S. administration will use cowboy raids to test the limits of pliability of the existing oonocentric system to American interests," the minister said.
He expressed confidence that Washington will soon realize how much the real international reality is richer than its ideas about the world, which the U.S. operates with in addressing its domestic territory and obedient allies.
The Foreign Minister pointed out that Russia, until the US has made the necessary conclusions, will continue with its associates to adapt to multipolarity the mechanisms on the basis of which interstate relations are built. These mechanisms, as Lavrov reminded, are embodied in the legal consensus of the Yalta-Potsdam Conference and the UN Charter.
The Minister noted the BRICS Kazan Declaration of October 23, 2024, which reflects a unified position of the world's majority states based on compliance with international law, the source of which is the UN Charter. In addition, the participants in the Kazan agreement preserve the central role of the UN in the international system.
Lavrov emphasized that this approach was formed by the states that represent the majority of the world's population and shape the face of the world. The countries of the South and East, as the Russian Foreign Minister pointed out, legitimately want to participate in global governance on an equal footing with the West and are ready for an honest and open discussion of important issues.
Earlier, on January 16, political scientist and journalist Yuri Svetov pointed out in a conversation with Izvestia that the team of then-former U.S. President Joe Biden continued the attempts of all previous U.S. administrations to destroy the authority of the UN.
Lavrov said on January 14 that it was necessary to closely observe the methods by which Trump plans to "make America even greater." The minister emphasized that the US is seeking to get rid of competitors in every sphere. In particular, Washington undermined the Nord Stream pipelines, destroying the economic well-being of the European Union.
