In Moscow, the mortality rate among patients with oncology within the first year after diagnosis has decreased - from 17% in 2019 to 11.5% in 2024. The second important indicator - detection of such diseases at early stages - has increased to 67.7%, the mayor of the capital Sergey Sobyanin said in his personal blog on World Cancer Day.

In addition, the share of patients observed five years and more after diagnosis has increased from 55.6% to 60% over the same time.

Five years ago, Moscow was the first in the country to develop a new standard of urban oncology service, Sobyanin noted. It is based on a consistent seamless management of the patient at all stages of the fight against the disease: from suspicion and diagnosis to surgical and drug treatment, and then lifelong dispensary monitoring.

Five multidisciplinary cancer centers with a full range of clinical capabilities were organized on the basis of the largest city hospitals. Each center is assigned to the population of one or two administrative districts of Moscow.

Thanks to the standard, the volume of treatment in the oncology profile has doubled. More than 47 thousand patients receive medicines annually at the expense of regional funds.
