A center for mRNA technologies for the development of innovative drugs has been established in Russia

A scientific and technological center for the development of mRNA technologies for the development and production of innovative drugs for the treatment and prevention of diseases, including cancer, has been established in Russia. This was reported in the press service of the government of the country.

"In Russia, a scientific and technological center for the development of mRNA-technologies, on the basis of which innovative drugs will be created, including for the treatment of oncological diseases," - stated in the Telegram-channel of the government.

The organization will function in the form of an association and without forming a legal entity. It is specified that about 600 million rubles were allocated for the purchase of equipment.

The National Research Center (NRC) of epidemiology and microbiology named after N.F. Gamaleya was named the head scientific organization. It will also include 17 scientific organizations, including national medical and research, as well as federal scientific centers.

Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Director of the Gamaleya Research Center of Epidemiology and Microbiology. On January 27, Alexander Gintsburg, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Director of the Gamaleya Research Center of Epidemiology and Microbiology, said that in August the oncovaccine will be approved for use, and the first patients will receive it in September. It is expected that the vaccine will be administered not only to patients with primary melanoma, but also to those who have already undergone treatment.

Before that, on January 23, Gintsburg reported on the plans of Russian scientists to create personalized mRNA vaccines against kidney, breast and pancreatic cancer. Models of oncologic diseases will be developed for this purpose. The vaccines are planned to be tested at the end of this year or at the beginning of 2026, if funding allows.
