Russia to request UN Security Council meeting on Ukraine in mid-February

Russia plans to request a meeting of the UN Security Council (UNSC) in mid-February to discuss the conflict in Ukraine. Russian Deputy Permanent Representative to the organization Dmitry Polyansky said this on February 4.
"Russia plans to call a meeting on the Ukrainian crisis in mid-February," he told RIA Novosti.
He added that the US and Russian Federation had not held any meetings on the Ukrainian conflict between them at the UN headquarters in New York.
The day before, on February 3, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that international structures, including the UN Secretariat, are silent about the crimes of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) in Kursk Region, and by doing so they disgrace themselves. In particular, the world organizations speak about these events in unspecific terms and do not mention geographical names.
The Russian side promised to pass information about the crimes of the AFU to the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR).
On February 2, the Russian Defense Ministry reported that the AFU had launched a targeted missile attack on a boarding school in Suzha the previous day. The launch of enemy missiles from Sumy Region was detected by Russian air defense equipment.
On February 2, Russian Ombudsman Tatyana Moskalkova called on the UN, the Council of Europe (CoE) and the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) to condemn the AFU strike on the boarding school in Suja in Kursk Region. The ombudsman called this attack by Ukrainian militants a bloody provocation and a crime against humanity.
The special operation to protect Donbass, the beginning of which Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken against the background of the aggravated situation in the region.
