The Japanese government has decided to send Ukraine a batch of all-terrain vehicles and small trucks for the needs of the Ukrainian army. This follows from a statement by the country's Defense Minister Gen Nakatani on Tuesday, February 4.

As reported by GOO News, Nakatani said during a press conference that Japan's Self-Defense Forces have started sending Kiev an additional package of vehicles.

According to him, by June 2024, the Self-Defense Forces have already provided the Ukrainian side with a total of 101 vehicles, including trucks, all-terrain vehicles and material transport vehicles.

It is planned that the Self-Defense Forces will provide a total of about 30 more vehicles.

Earlier, on November 16, 2024, Japan's foreign minister came to Ukraine on an unannounced visit. It was Iwai's first trip to Ukraine since his appointment as Japan's foreign minister on Oct. 1.

Western countries have stepped up military and financial support for Kiev amid Russia's special operation to protect Donbass, which was announced by the Russian president on February 24, 2022, after the situation in the region worsened due to shelling by the Ukrainian military.
