As a result of offensive actions of the Atlant battalion's attackers of the 35th Guards Motorized Rifle Unit of the Center group of troops, a stronghold of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) on the Krasnoarmeyskoye direction was captured. This was reported in the Russian Defense Ministry on February 4.
It is reported that after destroying defense firing points, Russian Armed Forces attack aircraft in pairs entered the forest clearing where the AFU stronghold was located.
"Covering each other, the Russian servicemen destroyed the superior enemy forces, clearing the dugouts. After that they consolidated and continued further advance," the Defense Ministry said.
The ministry also said that during the assault the operators of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) helped to control the battlefield and the course of hostilities from the air.
A day earlier, the Defense Ministry reported the destruction of a highway bridge and an AFU stronghold in the South Donetsk direction. The task was carried out by artillerymen of the Vostok group using a self-propelled Tulpan mortar.
On February 2, the Russian Defense Ministry said that Russian servicemen hit the infrastructure of military airfields, fuel storage facilities used in the interests of the AFU, as well as concentrations of Ukrainian militants' manpower and equipment in 153 areas. In addition, air defense means (air defense) shot down a HIMARS shell and 44 AFU drones during the day.
The special operation to protect Donbass, the beginning of which Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was made against the backdrop of the aggravated situation in the region.
