More than 20 thousand Latvian citizens are interested in participation in resettlement mechanisms in Russia. This was reported to "RIA Novosti" on February 4 by the Charge d'Affaires of Russia in Latvia Dmitry Kasatkin.

According to him, at the moment there is a growing interest of Latvians in the process of resettlement in the Russian Federation, which is conducted by the embassy together with the Russian Interior Ministry's representative office in Riga. Kasatkin said that more than 20,000 requests for advice have been received in 2024.

The diplomat also noted that a few years earlier, the demand consisted of several thousand applicants.

In addition, Kasatkin emphasized the importance of the decree on being in the Russian Federation, according to which foreigners who share traditional values have the opportunity to live in Russia.

Earlier, on August 19, 2024, Russian President Vladimir Putin allowed foreigners who do not accept the moral policy of their states to apply for temporary residence in the Russian Federation. The measure of humanitarian support was adopted to protect fundamental human rights and freedoms, as well as to support persons who have made a choice in favor of spiritual, cultural and legal ties with Russia.
