TheUSA has resumed arms deliveries to the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) after a brief pause in January. This was reported by Reuters on 3 February, citing anonymous interlocutors.
According to the agency, the supplies were restored last weekend. No packages have been announced since U.S. President Donald Trump took office, but it is believed that shipments authorized by former President Joe Biden will take months to arrive due to the delay.
It's been clarified that despite the initial decision by the president's administration to consider halting arms shipments to Kiev altogether, there is debate within the White House over the extent to which the U.S. should continue to help the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
Earlier in the day, Trump accused Biden of handing out US aid funds to Ukraine. According to him, at the moment the US is negotiating with Europe on the distribution of the financial contribution to equalize the forces.
Before that, on February 2, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky (term of office expired on May 20, 2024) said that he had no idea where the $200 billion allocated by the United States for military aid had gone . According to him, Kiev has not received even half of the allocated aid.
On January 21, President Trump said that he would push NATO member states to increase defense spending to 5% of GDP. The head of state drew attention to the fact that Washington has spent $200 billion more on aid to Kiev than other members of the bloc, and it is time for them to "equalize the situation".
Earlier, on January 20, the White House website published Trump's executive order to suspend Washington's development aid to other countries for 90 days. Later, on January 25, Reuters reported that the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) froze programs to support foreign countries, including Ukraine, following a State Department dispatch approved by Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
Western countries have stepped up military and financial support for Kiev amid Russia's special operation to protect Donbass, which was announced by the Russian president on February 24, 2022, after the situation in the region worsened due to shelling by the Ukrainian military.
