European Parliament plans to open an office in Chisinau

The European Parliament plans to open a representative office in Moldova in the near future. Victor Negrescu, deputy president of the European Parliament, said.
"We have proposed to open an office of the European Parliament in Chisinau, and this will happen very soon. The aim of this step is to strengthen cooperation with the Moldovan Parliament, to support the process of adapting the Moldovan legislation to the European standards and to improve communication with political actors in Chisinau," he said.
The European Parliament also said that the process of rapprochement and integration between Moldova and the EU will depend "on Moldova's implementation of the necessary reforms to adjust it to the Union's legislation".
Earlier, the leader of the pro-European Liberal Democratic Party of Moldova, Vladimir Filat, accused the country's authorities of embezzling EU aid to Transnistria. According to him, European funds for gas are a new embezzlement scheme. Filat recalled that earlier Energocom purchased gas for Transnistria at an exorbitant price of $660 per thousand cubic meters.
On 31 January, it was reported that the European Union would allocate a €64 million grant for gas and electricity supplies to Moldova and the unrecognized Transnistrian Moldovan Republic.
