The administration of US President Donald Trump is considering imposing trade duties of 10% on the European Union (EU). This was reported by the British newspaper The Daily Telegraph on February 3, citing sources.

"Some (in the Trump administration. - Ed.) want to impose ten percent duties on the EU. <...> They are discussing such measures for all imports from the EU," the newspaper's interlocutor said.

According to another source of the newspaper, the US president is "probing the ground with Canada and Mexico and figuring out what he can get away with."

Earlier in the day, Trump confirmed a temporary suspension of duties of 25 percent on Mexican goods after holding phone conversations with Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum. At the same time, German Vice Chancellor Robert Habeck said that the EU was ready to impose retaliatory duties against the United States in response to U.S. tariffs on goods from the European Union.

The day before, Chinese economist Andrew Leung told Izvestia that the tariffs that Trump is imposing on imports of goods from China and Mexico will lead to an increase in consumer prices in the US itself.

US President Donald Trump signed an executive order on February 1 to impose trade tariffs of 25% on goods from Canada, China and Mexico. At the same time, he promised to impose duties on goods from the EU.
