It is vital for the UK to cooperate and have good relations with both the United States and the European Union (EU) and it cannot choose between the two. Prime Minister Keir Starmer said at a press conference with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte on February 3.

"It is very important to work with both options and we don't see this as a choice between them," Starmer said.

He said Britain works very closely with European allies every day, especially on the topic of the conflict in Ukraine.

He added that the UK has a huge volume of trade with both the U.S. and the EU. The prime minister also said that it is very important to work with both sets of partners, especially in these volatile times.

On the same day, Rutte said that European countries will not be able to ensure their own security without Washington's help. At the same time, Rutte did not specify the reasons for this state of affairs. Instead, he called the conflict in Ukraine geopolitical and pointed out its significance for the United States.
